FAQ

Questions lawyers ask us.

Plain answers on what Misaal does, what it doesn't, and what happens to your data.

The answers

What is Misaal?

A case law research and citation-checking tool for Indian lawyers. Every passage you read is copied word for word from the judgment.

Does Misaal use AI?

Yes, to find the judgments that match your facts. It doesn't write anything about the law: no summaries, no generated answers.

Which courts are covered?

The Supreme Court and a growing list of High Courts. The courts section on the home page has the current list and counts.

How current is it?

It depends on the court. The Supreme Court runs from 1950, and High Court coverage depends on the public dataset. Check the original before relying on a recent order.

Where do the judgments come from?

From official court PDFs, through public datasets. How we verify explains the process.

Can a passage have errors?

Yes. Older PDFs are read by machine, and text can come out wrong. That's why every passage links to the PDF at that page.

Does it tell me if a case is still good law?

No. It shows later judgments that name a case, and later Supreme Court sentences using words like overruled. Deciding what that means is your job.

Are SCC and AIR citations supported?

Those numbers can't be looked up, since they're private reporters. Search by case name, or by the SCR or neutral citation.

Do I need an account?

No. Open Misaal and start.

Are my searches private?

Search text is stored on our server, without your name. Don't type client names or anything confidential. The privacy page has the details.

Are my drafts kept?

No. A draft is read to run the check and isn't saved.

Where are my matters stored?

In your own browser. Download a backup, since clearing your browser data removes them.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. You can install it to your home screen, and My matters and court mode open with no network.

Is it legal advice?

No. Misaal is a research tool, not a law firm.
